Anger at the elite and hope for their own – how emotions are used in right-wing populist communication

Anger and contempt are directed primarily at political elites, while fear is mainly associated with groups such as immigrants. Positive emotions, by contrast, are used to foster a sense of community around the party and “the people”. These are the findings of a study published by Nordicom at the University of Gothenburg examining the Finns Party’s social media communication during Finland’s 2023 election campaign.
