"We hope that this platform will make media and communication research with a Nordic focus more visible and searchable", says Jonas Ohlsson, director of Nordicom.
The new platform will be called NordMedia Network and its main objective will be a searchable and freely accessible database of media researchers. The database will be based on self-recruitment, allowing researchers to present their ongoing research and find collaborators and partners. The database will also help journalists and other people outside the academia to find media experts.
Based on user-generated content
NordMedia Network will mainly be based on user-generated content from registered users. As a user, researchers will also be able to discover conferences or other academic events, flag up vacant positions and stay up-to-date on the latest Nordic and international media research.
The platform will be launched in connection with the NordMedia conference in Malmö on August 21-23, 2019.
Replaces the NCOM databases
Previously, information about media and communication research was registered in the NCOM databases. These databases were closed down in April 2018 due to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance.
