Can all global journalism research be captured on one site? The Journalism Research News Project mines the Internet for news about recent international research, and collects it in one place. Launched in 2015 in Finland, it has presented almost 1500 articles so far.

New issue of Media & viestintä

The Finnish scientific journal Media & viestintä has released its second issue for 2017.  New to this issue is that the journal is moving to a new address and becomes part of the open journal database “Journal.fi”.

Finnish proposal for support to commercial TV news

A Finnish working group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications suggests financial support to commercial TV news broadcasting. They propose a three-year support programme for commercial TV channels with a programme licence to operate a public interest channel.

Media & viestintä 4/2016

Media & viestintä is one of the leading journal of media and communication research, and has been published since the 1970s.

Four issues per year covers a broad area of research in the articles, interviews, reviews and comments.
The articles are usually written in Finnish but with summary in English included.

Media & viestintä is published by the Finnish Media Research Association MEVI.

Decline in the Finnish media market in 2015

In 2015, the value of the Finnish media market continued downward. However, there was some growth in a few media sectors, particularly cinemas with a more than 25 per cent increase in sales. This is shown in Statistics Finland’s overview on the Finnish mass media market.

The YLE tax remains in Finland

A parliamentary working group, established to re-assess the role of the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE on the media market, did not propose any changes to the existing system of funding. YLE should increase its purchases from independent production companies, but the tax remains.

NordMedia2017

The biannual NordMedia conference is arranged by the Nordic media research associations in cooperation with Nordicom and the host university. The conference was first arranged in Oslo in 1973, and has ever since been arranged by the Nordic countries in turn.

The NordMedia 2017 conference - the 28th - is hosted by University of Tampere between August 17th to 19th. The theme is 'Mediated Realities – Global Challenges'. .
