The two keynote speakers for the NordMedia 2015 conference have now been announced: Professor Franc Biocca, Director of Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University and Associate Professor Lee Humphreys, Department of Communication, Cornell University.
Professor Frank Biocca directs the Newhouse School’s M.I.N.D. Lab, part of a network of collaborative research labs for scholarly work in communication, cognitive science and human-computer interaction. Biocca is interested in how mind and media can be coupled to extend human cognition and enhance human performance. He has conducted research on the psychology of presence in virtual environments, spatial cognition and information organization in high-bandwidth and mobile system collaborative augmented reality systems and adapting interfaces to cognitive styles and sub-cultural differences.
Dr. Lee Humphreys studies the social uses and perceived effects of communication technology. Her research has explored mobile phone use in public spaces, emerging norms on mobile social networks, and the privacy and surveillance implications of location-based services. Her recent scholarship tries to historicize social media into a broader context of communication practices. Often using qualitative field methods, she focuses on how people integrate communication technology in their everyday lives in order to facilitate identity management and social interaction.
